A Mysterious Clock Controls Time. What Happens When It Breaks? The clock tower is the center of the town of Time. It counts down the hours, minutes and seconds of every passing day. But unbeknownst to the local inhabitants, it is at the center of a great deal more than that. It is the center of the universe and controls time itself. But it is old and beginning to break, sending the world’s inhabitants skipping forward and back through time. Seventeen-year-old Jera Wythnos, betrothed to marry a powerful lord, runs to escape her responsibilities and pursue her dream of traveling the world. Hot on her heels is her betrothed, moving heaven and earth to find her before the wedding day. Elian Stump is an outlaw on the run from a bungled heist, but he carries with him a dangerous secret that threatens to either free or ensnare the world. They confront sinister forces at every turn, hell bent on preventing them from achieving their goal, and taking control of the clock tower for themselves. The universe has chosen this unlikely pair to collect all three replacement clock pieces scattered across the world before the clock tower, and time, breaks for good. On their journey they make friends and enemies, encounter strange and wonderful mythical creatures, and face their own internal demons.

Book one of this seven part series introduces a small town called Time, a thief called Elian Stump, and a rich girl named Jera Wythnos. Most of this first novel follows Jera and her sister Kali as they are betrothed to Richard and Gregory Ascar. The writer’s storytelling is incredibly descriptive, and the characters that he has introduced have very real, complex, and understandable desires. There were a few twists in this book that I did not see coming, and near the end the pace picks up and the story really starts to take off.
However, I felt that the author ended this first novel entirely too soon. He introduces all of these lively characters and injects this sense of danger right at the end, the novel starts to pick up its pace, and then just as everything starts happening, it’s over. Although I will say that it is a great technique to make me want to read the next one.

I was turned off right at the beginning, the horse is described as a gelding at first and just a few pages later the author describes the main character as leading "her" away. If the author doesn't know what the heck he is talking about why should I care?? For the author's information, a gelding is a neutered male horse, not a mare. Small details like this take away from the story, at that point I just lose faith in the writer as a story teller. Get your details in line please.
I love science fiction, fantasy, adventure books and it takes a really good one to capture my level of interest. I don't care for vampire books because they all seem the same.
This book has captured my interest, 1 because it's not about vampires as of yet. It has lead me to wanting to read book 2. That says a lot.
This book has all the genres that I long for in a book. Twist and turns, Perrin Briar has described the characters in detail to the point you almost feel your one of the characters. A simple book yet pulls you in with the descriptions of the mystical type creatures and enough adventure that makes you not only relate to the characters but that you feel you're part of the adventure also. I found myself holding my breath, sitting on the edge of my seat, and laughing at times. So onward to book 2 and I'll let you know if the 3rd in this series will be on my list of next books to read. Hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did.
There were many inconsistencies in the story that sent me flipping back through to see if I misread and more than a few misused words. It started out good then the escape was bland and underwhelming. At the end it began to pick up just in time to end. Great ploy to get readers to buy the next book but really poor choice.
I would have loved to give this book a high mark, but the editing and/or the formatting detracted from it. From repetitive word usage to missing words from sentences, to extra words from a previous edits not being removed; there were just too many.
While the character are fairly interesting, the premise hold the reader more so. The overall feel of the book leaves me believing the author had broken down a completed manuscript into multiple episodes. Some chapters feel like alternate scenes from other chapters, and the length and pacing of the narrative suffers for it.
I hope the other books in this series have clearer editing.
I can only recommend this book for a light read and if formatting/editing errors won't bother you.
A few missed opportunities at fact-checking detract from the early story, but we're all guilty of that at times, and it's nothing that can't be fixed. That said, the idea of the town clock being the centerpiece for time travel was a novel one, the characters were interesting and fantasy/sci-fi cliches were mercifully few. There are some good plot twists mid-late way through and a few unexpected surprises. The story is quite short - a novella really - and ends quite abruptly, but at this price, it wouldn't break the bank to read the sequels. Looking forward to it.
The Martyr and the Prophet (The Lost Testament Book 1)
This book was almost a short story. It seemed just start getting exciting and it ended. There seemed to be a number of boooks in the series but I doubt I'd make the financial commitment and finish the series.
I'm afraid the huge amount of continuity issues kept throwing me out of the story. Example -- In one sentence, people are falling in the muddy street. Then suddenly there are tiles on the ground. The next sentence describes the ground as pavement. Things like this keep happening. I admit I assumed this was a book for adults when I downloaded it, but I think the intended audience is much younger as the plot and especially the characters lack complexity.
